Photography, Inspiration, and Passion...

What does it mean to be a PHOTOGRAPHER?

Marry Jordan Photography

The Dictionary says this:
1. A person who takes photographs, especially one who practices photography professionally.
2. A person who takes photographs, either as a hobby or a profession.

Can you truly be considered a photographer if you do not do it professionally? Can anyone with a camera be a photographer? Is it the same to say then, is any person with a paint brush an artist? In my opinion photography is a beautiful art. Each person brings to the table the world from their point of view. It's as if the Lens itself is an extension of the Eye. Everyone sees through their own unique Eye Lens. I may look in the mirror and see myself one way while you look at me and see me a completely different way, and yet when someone sees a photograph of me their perception is different still. Who's perception is right? Who's lens tells the REAL Truth? That is what makes it art...a glimpse into the Eye Lens of another person. Some people are gifted and others may not want to make photography a profession.

I throw all perception aside though when passion rushes in. If you are passionate about something, go for it. Like me for example, I don't snap photos with my iPad because I'm so great...I just found this hidden passion to capture an image and tweek it. I love to play with the different editing options. I want to take the ordinary and make it fun and different. It might not be what you would have chosen it to look like, but it's what I liked and chose. It's MY Art...My Eye Lens.
One of my favorite Lifestyle Photographers is Mary Jordan www.marryjordan.com It was because of her that I have beautiful family portraits to cherish forever. It has now been 3 years and it is WAY PAST DUE for more, but the lovely economy has put a hold on some things...other focuses...but oh you better believe I am going to get some more taken soon. I never considered myself to be photogenic. I don't think I am ugly, I just don't look super awesome in all photos. Mary changed that for me and I think maybe even unlocked the hidden passion within me.

Another new up and coming photographer I have been enjoying is Ashley Jane www.ashleyhanephoto.com She snapped some very cool pics of me and some of my band. We were helping her build her portfolio and now she is remaining busier than ever booking sessions, all while raising her 3 beautiful kiddos. Super Mom for sure!

As for me, although I wear many hats in my life, right now I'm just a girl with an iPad and a Passion...I snap photos, edit them, and realize how much more I want to learn. I am finding inspirations around every corner! :)

Photo Fake!

It's been a busy weekend and I have been unable to blog or read blogs as much as I would have liked...finally being able to stop and take a breath, I came across this article and had to share it. I can honestly say that I have never quite trusted all media pictures and stories simply because it seems much too easy to fabricate them. I think though, if you are gonna fake a photo...at least do it right! Geesh!

Enjoy!

Bad Photoshop...

"There has been another round of badly Photoshopped images in the news the last few days.

This image was released from the North Korean (state run) news agency showing victims walking through a "flood".

Two things wrong with this image, the water does not wick up their pants, they remain absolutely dry right to the water line AND the blending of the people to the water isHORRIBLE.

It is theorized that they (North Korea) released the image as "news" hoping for different flood, one of international aid.

If you follow this link you can read the story (and see the image) that cost an Associated Press freelance photographer his job (and credibility). What did he do? He used Photoshop to (badly) remove his shadow from an image he took of children playing soccer.

It seems that folks get caught because they do such a bad job of using Photoshop, which makes you wonder how many "good" edits never get caught.

Don't get me wrong, I use Photoshop, but I don't pass my images off as news, nor do I claim them to be unaltered."

Picture That!

If you have ever looked at something through a microscope or seen images of something under a microscope, you are well aware that things are not always what they seem. Something up close may look like one thing, but a view from farther back makes it a completely different thing....

Check This Out! Can You Guess what these actually are?

Did you guess any? I'm going to leave you to your imaginations...ENJOY!

Eye See You!

Lately, I have become obsessed with eyeballs....haha....mainly my eyeballs, as they are always with me. There is something intriguing about eyes, whether photographed, painted, or just sitting on someone's face. Something about the way the light reflects off of them, their color, their shape...I don't know why I have seen so many "eye" pictures or why they have always stuck out to me...must be something to them right! After all, the eyes are the window to the soul, or so the saying goes! I actually plan to take pictures of other people's eyeballs, but mine have been most readily available. What I'm saying is that I have accessible eyeballs....LOL!

So, "Here's Lookin' At You Kid!"

Hope you enjoyed the Eye-Full!

Undiscovered Passion...

Hello World, Welcome!

Recently, I have stumbled upon a new passion...Being an iPad Photographer! A WHAT, you say? Yes, an iPad Photographer. I have never considered myself to be a Photographer or an Artist, although at different times in my life I have dabbled in these areas. Considering yourself to be a Photographer and just taking pictures, considering yourself to be an Artist and just drawing, painting, or sculpting are very different things.

Come and experience a world of Photography Art created by Me, Myself, and My iPad...After all, Artistic Perception is all "In the Eye of the iPad Holder."

Enjoy!
